Introduction to the Twin Bees

My name is Robert and my brother James are twins. We all sang at the karaoke which we  enjoyed about 9 years ago. It was the thing to do when you went out at the weekend. Then we started to go during the week as well. It got to stage that we started to enter some competitions and we won them. This was great and we really enjoyed ourselves. Other people started saying to us that we should try and get into the club and pub scene like other groups did.

We weren't a group then. We were just two brothers singing at the karaoke. We did a range of songs which was the "Christopher Cross", "The Eagles", "Chicago" and "Air Supply". Then one night Robert heard someone singing "How Deep Is Your Love". He came and said to James and myself that he heard a great song and that we would have to get it. So the next day we went out and brought the Bee Gees video "One For All", Australia 1989. We put the video on and watched it over and over. From that moment on we have never looked back

We, like everyone else that listens to the Bee Gees were hooked. We used to dream about doing that on a big stage and what it would be like to meet them or to see them live. To see what they are like, just like any other fan.

We started to sing, "How Deep Is Your Love" at the karaoke and everyone seemed to enjoy it. This was great for us so we thought about doing one of the other Bee Gees songs, "Night Fever". No one had done that before so when we did we got a great big round of applause. Then came "Stayin' Alive", same response. We got a great buzz from the crowd  that gave us a lift and a boost to another level. We went home that night and started talking amongst ourselves. We had heard about other groups that were tribute bands so we started thinking what would we do.

The first thought was we could be a tribute band to the Bee Gees. We did not know what a tribute band was at this time. We started to look into the tribute side of things and found out that there are a lot of tribute bands out there to the Beatles, The Eagles, Abba, etc., but there were not many to the Bee Gees, wonder why? We have not had any singing lessons. We are self-taught just as the Bee Gees.

On 01/06/97, all our dreams started to come true. We started to get a few gigs and started to sing in pubs and clubs. Then the unexpected happened, we got a contact at the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland. Then on 17/10/97, three months later, we were on our way to London to meet the Bee Gees. We could not believe how lucky we were, it was amazing.

We arrived at the LandMark Hotel after a 9 hour drive from Scotland. We were shaking like leaves. We did not know what to expect. Here were three guys going to London to meet the biggest stars in the world, and since we knew that they had heard our tape, we wanted to know what they thought of us.  We stood in the hall of this hotel where we were met by Dick Ashby and Linda Gibb. Now the nerves were really bad. Dick and Linda really made us feel better when they said that they were  more nervous about meeting us, not a lot but a bit.

As we went up to the hotel room, I'm sure you could hear our hearts beat in the lift, three part harmony, of course. Then we walked in the room. Barry, Robin and Maurice all stood up, they were eating, and shook our hands. We did all the intros and we asked about a few songs lyrics. They asked us what we were doing and we told them. They said to us that we should keep doing what we are doing and we have.
